Dark Spyro is the alter-ego of Spyro the Dragon.
Dark Spyro is a chaotic being who is not above destroying anyone who gets in his way.
Spyro first transforms into Dark Spyro during his fight with Gaul. After being caught in the same energy beam that freed Malefor, his transformation was triggered. Dark Spyro gained the upper hand against Gaul and turned him to stone. Once he killed Gaul in cold blood, Dark Spyro leaped back into the energy beam, intending on staying in this form. As Dark Spyro turned on Sparx and Cynder, Spyro fought for control. When Dark Spyro was knocked out of the beam by Cynder, he transformed back into Spyro.
Dark Spyro once again appeared three years later. After Ignitus' sacrifice, Spyro's sorrow got the better of him. This caused the darkness in him to take control and he transformed into Dark Spyro. Dark Spyro threatened Cynder and then said that he was going to go back and try to save Ignitus. Cynder snapped him out of his transformation and Spyro then accepted Ignitus' death.
Once The Eternal Night is completed, Dragon Challenges are unlocked. When all of them are completed, Dark Spyro is unlocked in story mode. He can be controlled for an indefinite amount of time. The in-game cutscenes will also replace Spyro's model with Dark Spyro's model.
